Conservative tooth restoration in West Delhi
A dental filling repairs a cavity or limited area of tooth damage after the cause and extent are assessed. At Dr. Kathuria’s Dental Specialties, Dr. Eisha Kathuria selects the material and design according to tooth structure, bite and moisture control.
A dark mark or sensitive tooth does not automatically need a filling. Diagnosis distinguishes active decay, staining, wear, cracks and existing restoration problems.
Same-day consultations may be available; call to confirm. Monday–Saturday, 9:30 am–8:00 pm.

01 · Quick answer
A filling replaces tooth structure lost to decay, fracture or wear when a direct restoration is suitable. The damaged area is prepared conservatively, isolated and restored with a material chosen for that tooth and cavity.
In brief: diagnosis and suitability require individual examination.
02 · Overview
Fillings commonly treat cavitated decay and small fractures. They may also replace a defective direct restoration.
Large defects, cracks, heavy bite forces or limited isolation may require an inlay, onlay, crown or another approach.
03 · Suitability
Direct fillings work best when enough sound tooth remains and the defect can be isolated and restored predictably.
Clinical note: this list supports discussion; it does not diagnose suitability.
04 · Compare choices
Early non-cavitated lesions may be monitored and managed preventively. Larger defects may need an onlay or crown, while pulpal disease can require root canal treatment.
Second opinion
A second opinion can review diagnosis, alternatives, expected maintenance and the proposed restorative sequence.
05 · Treatment designs
Material choice depends on the tooth, cavity, appearance, bite, isolation and repairability.
Bonded resin used for many front and back tooth restorations.
Useful in selected cervical, root-surface or high-risk situations.
Short-term protection while diagnosis or further care is completed.
06 · Consultation
Bring medicine details, relevant dental records and a clear account of symptoms or previous treatment.
Review symptoms, health and priorities.
Assess teeth, gums and bite.
Use imaging when clinically indicated.
Compare benefits, limits and alternatives.
Agree sequence and maintenance.
07 · Process
Examination and imaging where indicated identify the extent and cause.
Damaged or infected tissue is removed while preserving sound structure.
The tooth is isolated and the selected material is shaped and set.
Contacts, margins and bite are adjusted and polished.
08 · Aftercare
Temporary sensitivity can occur. The expected course depends on depth, material and the condition of the pulp.
Avoid biting numb tissues and follow material-specific advice.
Mild temperature or biting awareness may settle.
Brush and clean between teeth without avoiding the restored area.
Persistent pain, a high bite or a broken filling needs assessment.
Contact the clinic promptly for worsening swelling, persistent bleeding, fever, spreading pain, altered sensation or a loose restoration. Seek urgent medical care for breathing or swallowing difficulty.
09 · Informed consent
A filling cannot strengthen every damaged tooth or guarantee the pulp will remain healthy.
10 · Planning
Bonded restorations depend on contamination control and adequate enamel or dentine support. Deep or subgingival margins can change the material and technique.
Bite forces and remaining cusps help determine whether a direct filling is enough.
11 · Clinical approach
Stains and early lesions are not drilled automatically.
Sound tooth structure is retained where possible.
The tooth and cavity guide selection.
Plaque, diet and fluoride risks are addressed.

14 · Common questions
No. Non-cavitated lesions may sometimes be managed with prevention and monitoring. Cavitated or structurally compromised areas often need restoration.
There is no single best material. Tooth position, cavity size, moisture control, bite and appearance guide selection.
The tooth may respond temporarily to preparation and the restoration. Persistent, worsening or spontaneous pain needs review.
Longevity varies with size, material, bite, cleaning, diet, decay risk and review.
Yes. Wear, fracture, recurrent decay or loss of support can loosen a restoration.
A crown or onlay may be discussed when damage is too extensive for a predictable direct filling.
